What are Google Gadgets?

Gadgets are mini applications you can add to a webpage, Google Desktop or your iGoogle homepage. They can for example let you view your email inbox, display latest news, have a look at the weather forecast, watch online tv, play games, play music, get updated stock market information, and much much more...

What is iGoogle?

iGoogle is a customizable homepage launched by Google in May 2005. It has the capability to add feeds and Google Gadgets. To use iGoogle you first need to sign up for a Google Account. When you're all signed up you can visit google.com/ig(i.e. iGoogle) and start adding gadgets and feeds.

How do I add Gadgets?

Find gadgets you like in Google gadget directories such as this one, and click the Add to iGoogle link, or - if you want to add the gadget to a webpage - the Add to your webpage link. In case you need to add a gadget to other places, you might need to click the View Source link and copy the Web Address of that page.

I want to make my own Gadgets, where do I start?

A good place to start is at Google Gadget API - Developer Guide. When you feel ready to start developing gadgets you can use the Google Gadget Editor. A tip when using the editor is to add it to a separate tab on your iGoogle homepage, and edit the tab settings to include no more than 1 or 2 columns. That way you get a much better preview of the gadgets you're developing. We have created a predefined for this purpose: Gadget Developer Tab

How do I submit a Gadget?

Its easy, go to the Submit Gadgets page, paste the address(URL) of your gadget in the submission form, enter related tags(keywords), choose 1 to 3 categories, and click the submit button.

I've submitted a Gadget, but it doesnt appear in the Directory

Usually it takes 2-3 minutes for a submitted gadget to appear, but occasionally it takes longer. Please contact us if you belive something gone wrong during the submission process.

Do you have an official Mini Apps Gadget?

Yes we have. With this gadget you can keep updated with recent gadget additions, search the Google Mini Apps directory, and, - if you're a gadget developer - submit your your gadgets.
